Sometimes a publishing company makes magic by bringing in the right editor at the exact right time. When RedPoint Media found itself going through a transition of ownership in the wake of the pandemic, President and Co-owner Käthe Lemon knew she needed a solid editor in her ranks to keep her publications on track. Colleen Seto, a deeply experienced writer and editor, already had a good relationship with RedPoint and in 2023 Lemon enticed her to join as managing editor for the RPM Content Studio. Having previously worked with SJC Media  and other custom content and editorial publications, Seto had precisely the right skill set to oversee RedPoint’s client-driven work.

But Seto is the kind of editor who is at her best when donning several hats. Once officially on the RedPoint team, she began to spread her wings, helping to shape not only the magazines within the growing Content Studio, but also with the company’s flagship editorial magazine, Avenue.

Since taking the job only three years ago, Seto helped create the Calgary Health Foundation’s Breakthroughs magazine (winner of AMPA’s best new magazine in 2025) and STARS’ Horizons magazine while also managing Spur for the Calgary Foundation and Create Calgary for Calgary Arts Development, as well as taking on the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Leap magazine during a maternity leave in 2024/25. Seto’s experience in the sponsored content sector gave her the ability to work closely with clients to translate their brand vision into stories that appeal to a target audience as well as the general public. Her work not only results in client satisfaction (many now request her by name to work on their projects) but also in magazines that are genuinely enjoyable and meaningful for readers.

Last year, Seto managed nine custom titles, while also taking on the role of Executive Editor of Avenue where she helps manage the editorial process, assigns and handles various sections of the magazine, and acts as a mentor and source of support to the magazine’s team of editors. Avenue remains one of Alberta’s most influential city magazines, connecting Calgarians and visitors to Calgary with stories of local personalities and the best restaurants, attractions, shops, businesses, and events in the city.

It’s an incredible workload, which Seto handles with grace, professionalism and a healthy sense of humour, working with her writers as deftly as she does with clients. A champion of meticulous copy editing and the increasingly rare art of proper factchecking, Seto is diligent in her pursuit of great copy. Part of her superpower is working closely with writers to push them to be their best, asking the right questions and making clarifications to make all of her magazine’s stories sparkle. Her approach is to ensure that every article — be it a splashy profile in Avenue or a technical-driven piece for a custom health care magazine — is approachable, accurate, and compelling to any reader.

Beyond all this, Seto is an unwavering team player, putting her heart and soul into her work. She regularly volunteers her time at RedPoint events and has long been involved with AMPA. A tireless cheerleader for Alberta magazines, Seto’s enviable integrity and refusal to cut corners sets the standard for magazine editing in the province.
