Date: 23rd February 2021
Deadline: March 19, 2021
Are you passionate about magazines in Canada? Do you want to help influence the future of the industry?
Magazines Canada is seeking applications for three (3) positions opening on its Board of Directors at its next Annual General Meeting.
Magazines Canada’s Board of Directors plays an integral role in ensuring the association fulfills its mission to connect, inspire and advance the industry. The Board of Directors determines policy, as well as Magazines Canada’s strategic direction, makes high-level decisions and provides guidance to senior management. Please refer to Magazines Canada’s strategic plan (member login required) and 2021–22 policy priorities. You may also wish to consult the association’s policy governance model and operational guidelines, which contain more detail about board members’ roles and responsibilities.
What Does Board Service Require?
Board service normally means volunteering 15 hours a year for Magazines Canada by preparing for and attending meetings.
Directors are elected by members to serve up to three consecutive two-year terms, for a total of six years of service. The board meets five times a year online for one-hour meetings in January, March, May, September and November. Directors also attend Magazines Canada’s Annual General Meeting, held online in June. Directors serve on committees that meet online as required.
What Are the Benefits of Board Service?
Board members help to shape the future of the magazine industry in Canada by determining policies and priorities for the association’s work. The board helps to ensure that Magazines Canada’s priorities and areas of engagement are aligned with members’ needs so that members continue to be well-served by the association. If you feel strongly about digital transformation, diversity and inclusion, sustainability, the importance of Canadian content or any aspect of the industry, joining the board is a powerful way to advance those concerns. Board members are also able to meet others from the sector, as well as government policy makers, which can enrich their own understanding of the publishing landscape and provide important learning opportunities.
Who Should Apply?
Please apply to join the board if you:
