Current labour uncertainty

The Industrial Inquiry Commission (IIC) has been under way since the beginning of the year, with hearings held in January and February. Hearings have now wrapped up, and the Commissioner will present a report and recommendations to the Minister of Labour by May 15.

The national strike at the end of 2024 was paused for the IIC work to take place. The existing collective agreements between Canada Post and CUPW were reinstated and remain in effect until at least May 22, 2025.

This means a labour disruption could happen as early as May 22, but not before.

Providing you with the information your business needs

While reaching a resolution remains a priority, Canada Post is preparing for a number of potential outcomes, including the possibility of a labour disruption on or after May 22.
