Mount Royal University’s four-year Bachelor of Communication – Journalism degree aims to develop entrepreneurial multi-media communications skills grounded in critical thinking and ethical and professional practices. Students contribute to The Calgary Journal, an award- winning community news organization that produces a multi-media website, documentaries, and six print news magazines per year. Classes blend practice and theory for a broad-based education of value for many career choices.
Our faculty members blend extensive professional experience with current media research expertise. We focus on nurturing student journalists’ abilities in a supportive environment geared toward student success. Among other program requirements, journalism students complete one paid, full-time, supervised professional work experience (12 week, 450 hour minimum), from either May – August, September – December, or January – April.
