The Alberta Magazines Conference 2022 is back and in person! Join us Thursday September 22 and Friday September 23 at Grey Eagle Resort and Casino in Calgary for two days of keynote presentations and deep dive multi-track sessions for editors, art directors, publishers and writers!

We’ve extended Early Bird pricing right up until registration closes on Wednesday, September 14.

The conference will kick off September 22 with a full-day of programming with keynote presentations and concurrent breakout sessions followed by the 2022 Awards Gala in the evening. On Friday, September 23, we’ll kick off this half day of programming with a keynote presentation followed by concurrent roundtable discussions.

Hear President and CEO of FIPP, James Hewes deliver a keynote presentation on global trends; participate in a roundtable discussion with Declan Meade of Ireland’s The Stinging Fly; and learn how to create arresting covers with Chatelaine’s Sun Ngo!

Support Emerging Writers and Artists

The Amber-Webb Bowerman Memorial Foundation (AWBMF) was established in the summer of 2008 to honour and preserve the memory of Amber Webb-Bowerman and her incomparable exuberance, talent and creativity. Dedicated to quality in writing, reporting and the arts, Amber encouraged and supported young journalists and artists similarly committed to their own careers. To date we’ve raised more than $100,000 for emerging artists through scholarships, bursaries and other forms of financial assistance. The foundation aims to foster the achievement of excellence, and to broaden scholastic opportunities for emerging Western Canadian journalists and artists. The Foundation is seeking donations for the silent auction to be held at the Alberta Magazines Conference September 22 – 23 in Calgary. Auction items can include gift baskets, event tickets, hotel and restaurant gift certificates, original photographs and art, etc.

Join us Thursday, 22 September at the 2022 Alberta Magazine Awards to honour and celebrate the work of magazine makers – the editors, art directors, writers, photographers, and illustrators in 19 Showcase Award categories, 5 Alberta Achievement categories, and 6 new out-of-province categories.

The Alberta Magazine Awards is hosted by Alberta journalist, author and magazine lover Omar Mouallem. The program honours and celebrates the work of magazine makers who collectively bring passion and insight to our unique Alberta culture and ensure Alberta voices and stories are shared throughout the province and beyond our borders.
