Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly Announces Creative Export Strategy

Date: 5th July 2018

On June 26, 2018, the Honourable Mélanie Joly announced Canada’s Creative Export Strategy, an initiative seeking to increase the presence of Canada’s creative content in international markets. Including the Canada Periodical Fund, the Creative Export Strategy also increases funds for the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, Canada Book Fund, Canada Music Fund, and Telefilm Canada.

The Creative Export Strategy will also support the creation of a new funding program, Creative Export Canada. Dedicated to strengthening Canada’s creative content on the international stage, increasing export revenues, and boosting Canadian content’s discoverability, Creative Export Canada will provide Canadian organizations with $7 million in funding per year. According to a July 4, 2018 post by Magazines Canada, more details on Creative Export Canada will be released in the upcoming days, and the applications deadline will be set for late summer.

The Canada Periodical Fund is integral to the flourishing of the periodical industry’s print and digital landscapes. It “supports access to a rich diversity of Canadian storytelling and art, journalism, and trade intelligence critical to Canada’s social, business and creative fabric” (Magazines Canada).
