RedPoint Media & Marketing Solutions has an opening for a Graphic Design Internship to join our Production Department. This is a four-month contract opportunity in our Calgary office, starting January 6, 2020.
RedPoint Media & Marketing Solutions is an award-winning publishing house and content-driven marketing studio in Calgary. You’ll be joining the team that creates our in-house brand Avenue Calgary, an award-winning city lifestyle magazine. Our Company also creates custom publications for clients like WestJet, BC Ferries and the Calgary Foundation. Under the direction of the Senior Art Director, Avenue Magazine, the graphic design intern is responsible for a range of duties.
This full-time contract position in our Calgary office is an opportunity to work with an award-winning publication. The salary is based on a 40-hour work week at minimum wage, and you will be paid semi-monthly on the 15th and the 30th of the month.
This is an opportunity to:
Schedule and facilitate photo shoots as needed.
Coordinate subjects, shoot locations, hair and makeup requirements.
Facilitate photo shoots as needed.
Compile photo files after initial photographer selection has been made, to ensure the design and digital teams have access to the files they need.
Read FPO and Xcopy to determine the need for sourced imagery. Proactively source imagery so that it’s place ready for art directors to start designing layouts.
Ensure all sourced photography is high resolution and has all the relevant captioning and credit information and that appropriate print rights are secured.
Process second proofs and placing hi-res images when required.
Create page layouts and ads as assigned.
Use Adobe Photoshop to color adjust or close crop images as required.
Print proofs and ensure they are delivered to the appropriate editors.
Ensure design and editorial changes are updated with no further layout complications and enter proofing changes as assigned.
Preflight design layouts prior to plotter proof to look for resolution problems.
Generate contact sheets and captioning for all location photography after shoots.
Generate print to web assets as needed.
Produce awards, plaques, posters, banners, invitations, web assets, programs and advertising material as needed.
Assist in producing Instagram pushes.
Upload images to the Extensis Photo Library.
Participate in team meetings, including brainstorming.
Our Ideal Candidate
You are a junior (entry-level) Production Designer hoping to build your skills and take on new challenges.
You have strong Mac computer skills with a solid background in Adobe Creative Suite.
You are a team player with good communication and people skills.
You’re self-motivated, organized and a good problem-solver with demonstrated attention to detail.
You have a degree in graphic design from an accredited university or college.
Photography skills would be an asset.
Experience with production for digital platforms would be an asset.
