Job Description

Automotive Retailers Publishing is looking for an experienced and dynamic trade magazine Editor to lead and grow their print magazines and digital channels.

The Editor’s role is central to the company’s transformative growth strategy. They are at the beginning of an exciting new three-year plan that invests in editorial quality and design, digital platform development, and new audience growth. From Day One, you’ll have the opportunity to make your mark by shaping editorial strategy, spearheading product redesigns, and implementing new ways to inform and engage audiences.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading editorial activities for Collision Quarterly, serving Canada’s collision repair and refinishing professionals, and ARA News, published four times a year for members of the Automotive Retailers Association of British Columbia. You’ll also work closely with the Editor of Tow Canada as an integral member of the Automotive Retailers Publishing team.

As Editor, you’ll shape the editorial direction of their print and digital media, using your publishing expertise to deliver the trusted reporting, insights and perspectives that their specialized audiences rely on to stay informed, connected and competitive.

You can work independently while collaborating closely with a small, agile publishing team. You’re willing to go beyond expectations to deliver outstanding content in a fast-paced environment.

What you will do:
Editorial Direction and Content Development

  • Lead their integrated content strategy and execution across platforms, including print, websites, newsletters, social media, video, and podcasts.
  • Oversee all aspects of print magazine and digital production, from concept to publication.
  • Develop story ideas, assign, edit, and produce high-quality content in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of contributors, from freelance writers to industry experts, editing copy and ensuring quality and timeliness of content.
  • Write original content for print and digital channels, posting frequent updates to their websites, newsletters, and social media.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all editorial output.

Brand Stewardship

  • Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity and credibility.
  • Maintain editorial independence while collaborating with advertisers and partners.
  • Strengthen the reputation and authority of our publications and, indirectly, their parent organization, the Automotive Retailers Association.
  • Represent their brands at industry events, conferences, and meetings.

Product Innovation

  • Play a lead role in the redesign of our magazines, websites and newsletters.
  • Work with the publisher to identify content that drives audience growth, revenue and brand partnerships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop new content formats, products, and events.

Qualifications

  • You have 3+ years of editorial experience as a trade magazine editor and writer, with knowledge of the automotive service sector a bonus.
  • A post-secondary degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong sample portfolio.
  • Experience working across print, digital, social, and multimedia platforms.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and technical skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment.
  • Willingness to travel to industry events to connect with their markets and audiences.
