Workshop: Copy Editing

Event Date: 9th September 2019

Copy editors are more than just a human spell check. A good copy editor is a critical thinker with an eye for detail who can retain a writer’s voice—or know when a writer needs help defining their voice—while ensuring style, consistency, and proper grammar usage. Join writer and editor Conan Tobias for a copy editing boot camp that will sharpen your game by:

  • Detailing how copy editing relates to other parts of the copy flow
  • Looking at common mistakes and problem areas
  • Sharing tips for editing a piece when you don’t know where to start
  • Encouraging a group discussion on timely topics, such as ensuring accuracy and sensitivity when writing about gender

Conan Tobias is the editor-in-chief and publisher of Taddle Creek, the executive director of the Doug Wright Awards for Canadian cartooning, and a freelance writer and editor.
