John Wilpers is co-Founder and Partner at Katahdin Media Management. Katahdin is in business to help publishers, editors and revenue officers succeed, helping them build 21st century business and content models that are high-quality and profitable. Their approach blends reader and business-partner research with the top-to-bottom involvement of all of the staff to ensure that the solutions have buy-in from the start.

John Wilpers is known for his fast-paced and information-dense presentations that review trends and challenges facing magazine media. As co-creator of the annual 40,000-word “Innovation in Magazine Media World Report” from 2010-2021 for the world association of magazine media, FIPP, John built a reputation for vast knowledge of the industry, in a book that was purchased by thousands of media executives worldwide.

Since 2008, John has been working with print-centric media organizations worldwide helping them transform into profitable, energized, multimedia, multi-platform, 24-7 content- and revenue-generation machines.

He has worked with newspaper and magazine publishers in South Africa, Norway, Peru, the USA, the Czech Republic, India, Italy, Canada, the Cayman Islands, and more.

John’s consulting approach is to involve everyone in a company in the process of change, from staff and management to current and former readers and advertisers. Staff, advertisers, and readers often have some of the best ideas on how to improve a company’s fortunes, but no one ever asks them.

A husband, father, community advocate, lover of print and design communications; Scott Gray has been enabling creative thought and providing new opportunities for over 30 years. Collaborating with North America’s finest creative minds for decades can’t help but rub off on a person.

Gray joined Canada’s finest Heat Set web publication printer, Mitchell Press as VP Sales and Marketing to support the experienced team of print experts generate some exciting new opportunities.

Scott has worked as a mentor, guest lecturer, design judge, and community engagement leader hand in hand with the GDC, RDG, AIGA and Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society to raise the bar in communications.

He has been at the forefront of print communication technology through his career, bespoke Lithographic and Digital print, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Digital Storefronts, Web based Publications to stay on top of the most effective communication solutions. He joined the Mitchell team to promote and add value to sustainable publications and help introduce their unparalleled digital department capabilities to new markets.

Summit Format

We’ll convene at cSPACE for some introductions followed by a presentation by John Wilpers of Katahdin Media. Following John’s keynote, a light lunch and a chance for conversation is provided. Following the keynote presentation, Mitchell Press’ Scott Gray, Executive Vice President, will lead a roundtable discussion on paper supply chain issues and provide some solutions to help keep costs in check, followed by networking and publisher discussions.

One-on-one speed consultations with John will be scheduled in a nearby space, along with a chance for all guests to continue talking to colleagues and learning from each other. cSPACE offers ample space to spread out, and check in with colleagues in person for the first time since 2020.
