Calgary’s Child Magazine, founded in 1994 by business partners Ellen Percival and the late Sherry Kerr with a mission to connect Calgary families with local parenting resources, is marking its 30th anniversary this year.
Since its birth, this award-winning publication has played a key role in shaping the development of programs and services for Calgary families.
“We hoped to start a network magazine where those with needs could find those who were offering help,” publisher and editor-in-chief Ellen Percival said.
Calgary’s Child has become known for its comprehensive resource guides on education, classes, camps, celebrations, wellness and holidays among others, but also includes multiple departments. Each edition of the magazine is themed, and contains coverage of local issues and regular departments including ages, stages, food, travel and parent connection.
Calgary’s Child also provides their audience with information on community services, such as child care, special needs support and family services.
Since its inception, the publication has strived to serve as a comprehensive resource for parents in the Calgary area, providing information, support, and a sense of community.
Today, Calgary’s Child remains a premier parenting publication in the region, committed to informing, supporting, and connecting parents with essential resources and insights.
Calgary’s Child has become a go-to source for parents seeking reliable information on parenting, child development, education, health, and family activities.
Magazines have consistently innovated and excelled, from launching award programs to exciting newsletters, and Calgary’s Child is no different.
On it’s 30th anniversary, the publication is eyeing expansion to other parts of Alberta. The magazine is also looking at expanding distribution in Alberta. Until then, Calgary’s Child will continue doing what it does best: delivering local parenting information and resources that its audience wants, asks for and needs.
