The Straschnitzki family is being resilient because they don’t stay down when the worst happens.

Airdrie’s Ryan Straschnitzki and his parents, Michelle and Tom share insights into their lives in the weeks and months after tragedy struck the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team when the team’s bus was involved in a crash with a semi truck, which killed 16 people and injured 13 others, including Ryan.

Ryan is paralyzed from the chest down, but he has been a beacon of hope in a hard time that unified the nation and the global hockey community. Writer and photographer Britton Ledingham followed Ryan’s recovery and did an outstanding and sensitive piece on the dramatic changes to the family’s world.
