Sight of the Sun

Publication: Glass Buffalo

After being kicked out of his home, a trans man returns two years later hoping to collect some remaining cherished mementos from his earlier life while his judgmental mother is at church. James Cawkwell’s short story, “Sight of the Sun,” explores identity through his character’s memories tied to meaningful objects and how, for queer people, it’s often healthier to find hope and acceptance in ourselves and our chosen families.
