Calgary, Sept. 25, 2025 — The best and brightest talents in the province’s magazine industry gathered in Calgary on Sept. 25 to celebrate the Alberta Magazine Awards.
The annual event, hosted by the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association (AMPA) and judged by industry leaders from across North America, showcases the outstanding work of magazine professionals in the province.
“The AMA finalists and winners represent the best in magazine journalism and visual storytelling. Rooted in place and shaped by the landscapes we call home, these trusted storytellers connect communities of interest and reflect our shared identity. AMPA is proud to recognize the achievements of so many creative and talented magazine makers whose work inspires, informs and entertains Albertan and Canadian readers,” says AMPA executive director Suzanne Trudel.
The Alberta Magazine Awards program honours the work of Alberta’s magazine creators, art directors, writers, photographers, editors and illustrators. AMPA presented awards for excellence in magazine content published in 2024 across 20 categories, ranging from fiction and long-form feature writing to art direction, photography, and illustration, as well as recognizing the outstanding achievements of individuals.
RedPoint Media Group’s president and co-owner, Käthe Lemon, was named the Achievement in Publishing recipient. Lemon’s love for Calgary and its people shines through in both her creative vision for Avenue magazine and her business acumen at RedPoint Media. In the few years since she transitioned from long-time staffer to owner, she has transformed the business from a legacy media company into a sustainable social venture rooted in community connection and trusted storytelling, one that is connected to the communities it serves.
ATA magazine’s Cory Hare was named the Editor of the Year recipient in recognition of his exceptional leadership, editorial excellence and strong commitment to Alberta’s education community. A mentor, innovator and passionate storyteller, Hare has elevated the magazine’s quality and impact with exceptional content reflecting the voices and experiences that shape the province’s educational landscape.
Wider Horizons, the alumni magazine for Lethbridge Polytechnic, was named the Magazine of the Year recipient for its ongoing commitment to excellence and service to readers. Throughout 2024, the team demonstrated a deep understanding of its audience – curious and engaged readers eager for stories that reflect the polytechnic’s people and experiences. Issue after issue, they harnessed compelling topics and brought them to life with creativity and insight.
