Michael Hingston

 Edmonton, AB

I’m an award-winning author, journalist, and publisher based in Edmonton, Alberta. My writing has appeared in Wired, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Guardian, The Daily Beast, Hazlitt, Salon, The Walrus, and The Globe and Mail. I also write the Weird History column for Penthouse magazine.

My first novel, The Dilettantes (Freehand), was a #1 regional bestseller. The Winnipeg Free Press said it “may well be the Great Canadian Comic Novel.” It was later translated into German.

My next book is a critical and cultural study of Calvin and Hobbes, as part of ECW Press’s Pop Classics series. Let’s Go Exploring will be published in May 2018.

I’m also the co-founder of Hingston & Olsen Publishing, the outfit responsible for the Short Story Advent Calendar.
