When Safe Isn’t Simple
LINK is the alumni magazine of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. LINK aims to build an enduring relationship with SAIT graduates and with readers from the wider community through compelling stories, evocative photography and topics that inform and engage. We bring a unique perspective to today’s issues by drawing on SAIT expertise and reflecting the practicality and ingenuity that characterize the SAIT alumni community. In the article “When Safe Isn’t Simple,” we explore the provincial government’s new Westray Memorandum of Understanding and whether it will be enough to create safer workplaces. Anchored around the story of a SAIT instructor who works to raise awareness around safety after her husband died following a work-related accident, the article asks whether the Westray MoU is what’s needed to address the problem of workplace safety. And, because safety also requires education and protection, we include a look at the role of personal protective equipment.
