| The title MOM may lead people to think it’s your traditional magazine about motherhood. What do you say to critics expecting a tamer magazine? What haven't I said! I think there is a certain stereotype associated with the term "Mom." I feel that I owe it to my kids to be me. I would hate for my kids to grow up thinking I was demure, easily offended or that anything they do will shock me. You've got a ton of new exclusive web content on your re-vamped website www.mommagazine.ca. Tell me about the changes and what they will do for your brand?
I wanted to build a community and generate ongoing interest so I built the website and have since added my new favourite feature ‘What the FAQ?!’ We stole that from Owen Garratt, a local artist we interviewed.
I have a blog; we have a growing Facebook group, a Google search engine, polls, letters... and our new EYE CANDY section. Our one-year anniversary issue features Criminal Minds' hottie Shemar Moore—that was a fun photo shoot!
It's free, that's why! Our magazine is built on the foundation that “Life as a MOM doesn't mean life as a WOMAN has to end.” As a new mom, your focus tends to be on everything except you. I've never found that to be a healthy attitude. We just want moms—women—to laugh and enjoy some interesting articles. There's no need to change your personality just because you squeezed a kid out of your body. Also, we are a quality magazine with kick-ass design; our content flirts with the edge of disaster and we have amazing contests! This ain't your Betty Crocker magazine.
