Omar Mouallem is a freelance journalist, the founding editor of The Yards and UAlberta Business magazine, and the coauthor of an upcoming book with Simon & Schuster Canada. He's been nominated for 24 Alberta Magazine Awards. His byline has appeared in NewYorker.com, The Guardian, RollingStone.com, Wired, The Walrus, enRoute, Reader's Digest, Canadian Geographic, Maclean's, SHARP, and many other Alberta and Canadian publications.
Since starting his writing career as a music and film critic for weeklies, he's grown to become a generalist writer. He was an editor at Avenue for four years, and there he learned to be an adept fact-checker, substantive editor and proofreader. He served as the Edmonton Public Library's writer-in-residence for 2013. The same year, he won the City of Edmonton Emerging Artist award.
