Wine, food and travel writer Mary Bailey is the co-author (with Judy Schultz) of two best-selling books on Alberta food, The Food Lover's Trail Guide to Alberta,Volumes I & II. Mary is a food and wine correspondent for CBC's Radio One Alberta at Noon and publisher of the bi-monthly magazine The Tomato food & drink (formerly City Palate, the flavour of Edmonton's Food Scene).
Her work has appeared in various regional and national publications including the National Post.
Her passion for and advocacy of local foods is informed by the cultural aspects of food the world over. After all, everybody eats.
She is a certified sommelier and instructor for the Art Institute of Vancouver, teaching WSET courses in Edmonton.
She is also a certified French Wine Scholar (FWS, 2011); has achieved Advanced Certification from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET, 2006); is in her final year of studies for the WSET Diploma; and holds the Spanish Wine Educator's Certificate (2007). She is listed in the Unione Italian Vini Editrice (International Italian Wine Journalists).
Mary founded Edmonton's Slow Food convivia in 2002. She created and co-chairs Slow Food Edmonton's Indulgence, a Canadian epic of wine and food, now in its 11th year.
She was honoured with the GALA (Growing Alberta Leadership Award) for community spirit in 2007.
