King of Okotoks

Publication: Okotoks Living

Call him ‘King of Okotoks’; call him ‘Mr. Okotoks’; call him ‘Mr. King’; or just call him ‘Al’. Whatever moniker you choose, anyone who’s lived in Okotoks for any length of time over the past 60 years or so knows who Al King is. From seniors who can remember when he owned the only drug store in town, to young kids who received their very first dictionary from him, Al has definitely left his mark on the Town of Okotoks. He continues to do so to this day, still handing out dictionaries, attending Rotary Club events and writing a regular column for Okotoks Living magazine. Okotoks Living magazine writer/photographer Lana Armitage caught up with Al – not an easy thing to do, even at his age – for a day in the life of ‘Mr. Okotoks’. Here’s to many more!
